Content Description
One “School Friendship Book” scrapbook of E. Natalie Deering, 1916. 9.25 x 7 inches, with embossed suede cover that is lined with fabric on the inside and detached from rest of scrapbook. Title page is printed: “This book belongs to / Graduated from” with the handwritten inscription “E. Natalie Deering, ’16 / Louisville Girls High School.” A photograph of L.G.H.S. is adhered to the facing page. The book pages are preprinted, some of which read: “School Friendship Book / Designed and Illustrated by Clara Powers Wilson / Chicago / The Reilly & Britton Co. / Publishers,” “Table of Contents,” “My Class,” “My Classmates/Their Photographs / Autographs / and Nicknames,” “Class Officers,” “Faculty,” “Sports & Athletics,” “Proms, Dances, Hops,” “Invitations & Programs,” etc. Many pages include small headshot photos of classmates and teachers adhered to pages beside handwritten messages to the book’s owner, Natalie Deering. Also included are many different items adhered to pages, such as photographs, newspaper clippings, invitations, show programs, ticket stubs, Louisville trolley tickets, and other ephemera, including invitations and programs from Louisville Male High School. Some larger items are pasted onto the pages but folded in a way so that they can fit into the book and be unfolded to be viewed. Some photographs of Louisville “places of interest” are included on pages printed “Kodak SnapShots” and show views of local statues, parks, and monuments
