Louisville philanathropist Isaac Bernheim, a native of Germany, emigrated to the United States in 1867, followed within two years by his brother Bernard. Isaac and Bernard established the Bernheim Brothers Distillery in Paducah, Kentucky. In 1888 they moved the company to Louisville where Isaac became known as a civic leader in the local Jewish community and in the city of Louisville.
