Content Description
Notes taken by Benjamin Franklin Wright as a student in the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Wright went on to serve as chief physician and surgeon of the South East Coal Company's hospital in Seco, Letcher County, Kentucky. A self-described "progressive Roosevelt Democrat" with strong ties to the labor movement (and in conflict with the Ku Klux Klan), Wright served in the Kentucky state legislature, and as county judge and on the School Board in Letcher County. A letter from his son describes him as the "political boss of Letcher County" for a period of about three decades.
