Content Description Morris' inscribed textbook An Elementary Course of Civil Engineering for the use of Cadets of the U.S. Miliatary Academy by D. H. Mahan. Copyright 1846, 1854 edtion. The fly leaf and next page contain the inscription "Marshall Morris, Louisville University, September 1862."
Scope and Contents The Ruddell family papers document the lives of a Louisville family with correspondence, financial and legal documents, journals, and scrapbooks. Some of the correspondence includes letters to Ruddell's mother from her uncle, a Union soldier in the Civil War. Also present are letters to Ruddell's friends and family serving abroad during World War II. The financial and legal documents include estate and inheritance papers, deeds, bank statements, and insurance policies.
Content Description Letters from Short to members of his family; letters to Short from relatives, including two letters, 1784, 1849, from his uncle, William Short (1759-1849), diplomat; and letters from other botanists, among them John Torrey (about fifteen letters, 1850-1860) and Asa Gray (about forty letters, 1849-1879). Also included are a few botanical drawings.
