The Clinchfield Railroad connected the coalfields of Virginia and Elkhorn City, Kentucky with the textile mills of South Carolina. It began operating on December 1, 1924, and was long jointly leased by the Atlantic Coast Line (ACL) Railroad and Louisville and Nashville Railroad. The ACL became the Seaboard Coast Line and merged with L&N in 1983. The line is now part of CSX Transportation.
