University of Louisville Studies in Paleontology and Stratigraphy (and the smaller series, Notes in Paleontology and Stratigraphy), was an occasional publication edited by James E. Conkin of the University's Department of Geology (later Geography and Geosciences) and Barara M. Conkin of the Jefferson County Technical and Community College. The Conkins also wrote many of the publications, sometimes with other co-authors.

James Elvin Conkin was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Glasgow, Kentucky. He received his doctorate from the University of Cincinnati in 1960 and founded the University of Louisville's Department of Geology in 1964. He taught at the University of Louisville until 2001. He died in 2017.
Barbara Ellen (Moyer) Conkin was born on July 17, 1928, in Wilmette, Illinois. She earned a masters degree in geology from the University of Kansas, and served as the first geology teacher for Jefferson Community and Technical College. She taught geology at JCTC from 1969 until her retirement in 1995. She wrote numerous non-fiction books, including children's books. Barbara Conkin died in 2019.
