Louisville Music and Theatre collection

 Collection — Box: 1
Identifier: RG_195-UA

This small collection contains original programs of various musical and theatrical performances in Louisville, chiefly at the Louisville Memorial Auditorium and Drury Lane Theatre. One program each comes from the Taft Theatre in Cincinnati and the Iroquois Amphitheater in Louisville. The earliest program dates from 1932 with the latest newspaper clippings and programs from 1939. The year 1936 is void with programs picking up again in 1937. There is no indication who collected or donated these materials to the U of L Archives.

Programs reference the Louisville Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Ziegfeld Follies, Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, Ethel Barrymore, Laurence Olivier, George M. Cohan, Helen Hayes, and Walter Huston. There is also a program for the inaugural concert of the University of Louisville School of Music, which occurred in 1932.
