WAVE Radio transcription discs

This collection contains sound recordings from WAVE Radio during the period 1938-1959. They are stored on more than 360 metal/vinyl based 16" and 12" discs (there is one 10" disc, as well). The collection also includes scripts that would have been used in conjunction with the discs in radio broadcasts. Topics covered include politics (local, state, and national, including local and state campaign ads); "man on the street" interviews about taxation and expressway construction; historical pieces, including an extensive set of recordings on the history of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad and a historical series created by Bill Hodapp; University of Kentucky basketball games; local and national news; and Falls City Brewing Company advertisements.

Direct access to content of most of the discs is precluded by the format; a limited number have been digitized and may be accessed onsite in the Archives and Special Collections research room.

Biographical / Historical

WAVE was one of the earliest radio stations in the Louisville area.


Discs are boxed by size (16"-inch discs are boxed together; 10"- and 12"-discs are boxed together), and in order by the disc number assigned by the University Archives and Records Center. Scripts and other paper materials have been copied, and are in folders in numerical order, in box 15.
