Interviews with individuals involved in Branzburg v. Hayes (1972) and the paper that resulted from these interviews. Among the plaintiffs in this Supreme Court case was Paul Branzburg, a Courier-Journal reporter who was called before a grand jury to testify about illegal activities he may have witnessed as a reporter. This case tested the use of the First Amendment as a protection from having to testify under such conditions; it was not found to be an appropriate defense. Interviewees include Paul Janensch, Edgar Zingman, Jon Fleischaker, Edwin A. Schroering, Elmer Hall. An unrelated interview with Bessie Haldeman Culbertson, also conducted by Mr. Cusick, is included.
