W. Landis Jones received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Emory University in December of 1964. He began his teaching career as a professor at Waynesburg Collge in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. In 1967 Dr. Jones joined the Political Science Department at the University of Louisville. From September 1969 to September 1970, Dr. Jones was a White House Fellow connected to the staff of then vice-president Spiro T. Agnew. He returned to Washington in 1977 to become director of the President's Commission on White House Fellowships under the administration of Jimmy Carter, taking a leave of absence from the U of L to do so.
