Biographical / Historical

Clinton Wayne Kelly was born in Henry County, Kentucky to Griffin Wayne and Rebecca Smith Kelly. At the age of 17 (1861) he joined the Confederate Army, serving in Co. F, 4th Regiment, Kentucky Cavalry. In 1863 he moved to Canada to attend medical school, graduating from McGill College as Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery in 1867. He then traveled to Berlin, Germany and continued his studies. He returned to Louisville in 1869 and practiced medicine and taught at the local schools of medicine. Dr. Kelly died in 1923 of pneumonia.
