Louree Pottinger was born in Nelson County, KY to Robert Edward "Lee" Pottinger and Laurinda Cora Newman Pottinger. She was a 1922 graduate of the Louisville General Hospital School of Nursing. She taught nursing at LGHSN and later at the University of Virginia. She also served as Director of Nursing at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, KY in the 1930s and ‘40s. She is buried in the Boston Christian Church Cemetery, Nelson County, KY.
