This collection includes a small volume detailing the charter, constitution, membership and fee lists, and American Medical Association (AMA) code of ethics; and a large ledger of handwritten minutes of the meetings from 1872-1877, which has been partially transcribed.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Louisville was founded in 1838 and reorganized in 1858. Many prominent Louisville Medical Institute and University of Louisville Medical Department faculty were founders and active members, including George W. Bayless, Charles Caldwell, John Esten Cooke, Henry Miller, Lewis Rogers, and Lunsford P. Yandell. The organization ceased to exist sometime between 1880 and 1900.
