Several of the Louisville medical schools, their faculty members, and local medical societies produced medical journals in the 19th and early 20th centuries. These journals were often in competition with each other or merged with each other, changing names and/or numbering sequences, making it difficult to determine the composition of a complete run of a particular journal, or whether or not the library holds a complete set of the journals. The History Collections at Kornhauser holds the following: American Medical Bi-weekly, v. 6 (1877), v.12 (1881)-v.13 (1881); American Medical Weekly (Louisville), v.14 (1882)-v.15 (1882); American Practitioner and News, v.1 (1886)-v.26 (1898), v.29 (1900)-v.36 (1903), v.38 (1904), v.39 (1905)-v.45 (1911); The American Practitioner / a Monthly Journal of Medicine and Surgery, v.1 (Jan. 1870)-v.32 (Dec. 1885); Bulletin - Kentucky State Medical Association, v.1 (1903/1904); Gaillard's Medical Journal, v.29:no.1 (1880)-v.30 (1880),v.32 (1881)-v.34 (1882), v.40 (1885)-v.42 (1886),v.44 (1887); Kentucky Medical Journal, v.2 (June 1904)-v.3 (1906), v.4 (1906)-v.5 (1907), v.6 (1907)-v.48:no.4 (Apr. 1950); The Louisville Journal of Surgery and Medicine, v. 5 (1898); Louisville Journal of Medicine and Surgery, v.1:no.1 (Jan. 1838)-v.1:no.2 (Apr. 1838); Louisville Medical Monthly, v.1:no.1 (Mar 1894)- v.3 (1896); The Louisville Monthly Journal of Medicine and Surgery, v.6:no.33 (Aug. 1899)-v.23:no.7 (Dec. 1916); Mississippi Valley Medical Journal, v.24 (1917)-v.25 (1918)-v.26 (1919)-v.27 (1920); The Richmond and Louisville Medical Journal, v.5:no.6 (June 1868)-v.28:no.4 (Oct. 1879); The Richmond Medical Journal, begins/ends: v.1:no.1 (Jan. 1866)-v.5:no.5 (May 1868); The Western Journal of Medicine and Surgery, v.1 (1840)-v.32 (1855); The Western Journal of the Medical and Physical Sciences, v.2:no.2 (May 1828)-v.11 (1838).
