Handwritten book of notes taken in 1848. Includes notes on lectures by Daniel Drake, Samuel Gross, Henry Miller and Charles Wilkins Short. Some pages, dated 1854-55, have been removed, and appear to be listings of accounts due from patients.

Biographical / Historical

Dr. James C. Metcalf (1825-1910) attended the University of Louisville Department of Medicine, graduating in 1849-50. Metcalf practiced in LaGrange, KY after graduation. By 1860, he and his wife Francis had moved to Louisville; the family moved to Harrod’s Creek sometime in the 1870s. After the majority of the children left home the Metcalfs moved back to Louisville, where he remained until his death in 1910.
