James Floyd Furnish was born July 26, 1882 to John F. and Sarah Furnish of Henry County, Kentucky. He attended the Kentucky School of Medicine 1905-1908, graduating from the school’s last class before merger with UofL. He also graduated from the Kentucky School of Pharmacy in 1910. Dr. Furnish practiced in rural Spencer County until his retirement due to illness in 1972, shortly before his death. He delivered quintuplets to Bertha and Gaither Drury in 1914. They were the first quintuple birth in the U.S. where some of the babies survived (two lived).
