Biographical / Historical

Pediatrician Frank Falkner was a world-renowned expert on child growth and founder of the Louisville Twin Study program. Born and educated in England, he served at the University of Louisville School of Medicine from 1956 to 1968 and chaired the Department of Pediatrics. From UofL he went to the National Institutes of Health, then in 1970 he was appointed director of the largest and oldest continuous children’s growth study in the world, the Fels study of physical growth and development in Yellow Springs, Ohio. He served at several other universities before joining the faculty at University of California at Berkeley in 1981.
