Biographical / Historical

John Simmons Bird was born in July of 1839 in Ocheesee, Calhoun County, Florida. He died August 24, 1899 in Montgomery, Alabama. He was an 1876 graduate of the Louisville Medical College. He served in the 2nd Florida Infantry during the Civil War, and was wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia, and had his right leg amputated as a result.
