Collection consists of George B Calvert's longhand notes on the clinical teaching at Louisville Medical Institute, November 9, 1841 through January 12, 1842; photocopies of Calvert's medical "recipe" book; photocopies of Calvert's "Student's Book" containing "Select and Valuable Recipes" from medical journals; and one letter from Calvert dated 1869; photocopies of a book of poetry titled "Property of Mrs. Mary C Green, Perryville, Ky." Contains longhand poems, songs, short prose pieces by "GBC." Temperance themes figure in many of Calvert's verses; a copy of a photograph of George B. Calvert and his daughter, Mary Agnes Calvert Green.

George Briscoe Calvert was born to Dr. Isaiah Calvert and Mary Taylor Sandefer in Mercer County, KY. He married Agnes D. Sevier, and they had three daughters, Hallie, Mayme and Jennie. He attended the Louisville Medical Institute in 1841-1842. Dr. Calvert practiced in Perryville, Boyle County, Kentucky.
