The papers date from 1800 to 1981. Much of it appears to be associated with Lucien Beckner's tenure as curator of the Museum. Series III contains some of Beckner's personal writings.
The collection contains Mallalieu's research notes and teaching material relating to his unpublished histories of Louisville and the University of Louisville.
Includes two taped interviews with John Mallon, author of the 1956 city/county merger plan as well as personal papers related to the merger, including minutes, reports, news clippings, brochures, and correspondence. Tom Owen interviewed Mallon.
Consists of two volumes: Volume 1 concerns the physical history of Louisville, "i.e., political and military history, commerce, manufactures, municipal organizations." Volume 2 - "Intellectual Progress; i.e., development of courts, press and literature, religious history, schools and charties, and social history."
