Scope and Contents This collection consists of a case of instruments were presented to Dr. J. Henry Chenoweth by Dr. Samuel D. Gross, who was then Professor of Surgery at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, but had formerly served as Professor of Surgery at the Louisville Medical Institute from 1841-1854. Civil War era medical instrument collection

This collection of medical instruments includes a Lebenswecker, large brass lancet, small lancet in case, silverplate bleeding bowl inscribed W.J. Baird, bone saw with black handle, horse-shoe tourniquet, Johnson and Johnson aseptic guaze in package, and a set of bone cutting forceps marked Charriere-Paris.
