Biographical / Historical

Ap Morgan Vance was born in Nashville, TN in 1854, son of Morgan and Susan Preston Thompson Vance. Vance was a 1878 graduate of the University of Louisville Department of Medicine and medical partner with David W. Yandell early in his career. After several years in New York, Dr. Vance returned to Louisville and limited his practice to surgery. Dr. Vance was elected President of the Kentucky State Medical Society shortly before his death, and had served as President of the Jefferson County Medical Society. He was elected a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1913.
