Blake Beem (1891-1976) was Librarian, University of Louisville School of Medicine, from 1935 until her retirement in 1961.
Born in Spencer, Indiana, in 1891, Miss Beem attended high school in Little Rock, Arkansas (1907-1911); studied with the Michigan State Library Commission (1913); and attended the University of Colorado (1917). She taught home economics in Little Rock, 1914-1917; was Librarian, University of Arkansas School of Medicine, 1921-1928; was Reference Librarian and Assistant to the Director, Boston Medical Library, 1928-1932; and was Case Worker and Case Consultant, Arkansas Relief Administration, Social Service Division, 1932-1935. She was a member of the Medical Library Association, the American Library Association, the Kentucky Library Association, and the Filson Club.
From 1925 through 1927, Miss Beem was president of the Arkansas Library Association and a member of the Arkansas Library Commission. Beginning in 1955 whe was a delegate to UNESCO from the Medical Library Association.
