This collection consists of papers relating to the governance of the department of history, the University College, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the University of Louisville in general. Materials include departmental faculty meeting minutes, records of Faculty Senate meetings, University College faculty minutes and executive committee minutes, information relating to accreditation and curriculum, the Red Book, as well as material relating to Burnett's teaching in the field of history. Records relating to grievances are restricted.

Robert Burnett was born on January 25, 1934 in North Carolina. He held a bachelors degree in economics from Wofford College and a masters degree and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Burnett was a Professor of History and Chairman of the History Department at the University of Louisville from 1968-1978. He also served as University Ombudsman for U of L. Burnett became a Professor and Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Armstrong State College (later Armstrong Atlantic State University) in 1978. In 1985 he was named President of the University and held that position until his retirement in 1999. He was married to Mary Vaughan Burnett, with whom he had two daughters, Wendy and Dorothy. He died June 19, 2004 at the age of 70.
