Biographical / Historical

Charles C. Smith, Jr. “Charlie” was born in Fonde, Bell County, Kentucky. He attended Georgetown College, graduating in 1951 with honors, majoring in Biology and Chemistry. He graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1955. Dr. Smith served an internship with Dr. Tinsley R. Harrison at the University of Alabama at Birmingham before returning to Louisville for two years of residency. He married Rosemary Sledge of Russellville, KY, and they had four children, Charles C. III, Mark, Cynthia and Stephanie. Three of their children are physicians.
