Frederick A. Langolf was the oldest son of five sons born to George and Caroline Brown Langolf in Louisville, KY. He attended Louisville Male High School and was a 1902 graduate of the Louisville Medical College. He was a member of the Jefferson County Medical Society. He married Louise H. Schneider (1879-1958) in 1904, and they had one son, Fred W. Langolf (1905-1964).
