Garfield Howard, from Lock, Kentucky, was a 1907 graduate of the Hospital College of Medicine. He was a physician for the Southern Mining Company in Gatliff, Whitley County, KY, and was instrumental in the construction of the Whitley County Health Center in the early 1950s. Later in his career, he was on staff at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Louisville until he retired in 1958.
