The Highland Mothers Club was founded in April 1905 by Mary Katherine Lee, a pioneer kindergarten teacher in Louisville's Highlands neighborhood, in order to foster closer cooperation between parents and schools before the advent of Parent Teacher Associations. Meeting first in their own homes and then at the Douglass Boulevard Christian Church, the Highland Mothers Club continues to support charitable causes, child welfare and civic initiatives.
