Biographical / Historical

John Godfrey, M.D., was a surgeon in the U. S. P. H. and M.H. Service. He was born in Alabama and served in the Confederate Army. After the Civil War he clerked in a government office in Washington, D.C. He attended medical school at George Washington University, graduating in 1867 or 1868. He was appointed an assistant in the Marine-Hospital Surgeon Service June 29, 1877; assistant surgeon July 1, 1880, and promoted to surgeon Feb. 6, 1885. Dr. John Godfrey served as the Surgeon at the U.S. Marine Hospital, Louisville in the late 1880s.
