Montgomery's outgoing correspondence spans the years 1922 to 1928 and is addressed to a childhood friend, Lynn Faulkconer. In his correspondence, Montgomery narrates his struggle with tuberculosis at facilities in Cincinnati, Ohio; Saranac Lake, New York; and both Hazelwood and Waverly Hills hospitals in Louisville, Kentucky. The collection includes several photographs from his Hollywood years, including images of Douglas Fairbanks' swimming pool and silent film star Alma Ruben.

Biographical / Historical

Merrill M. Montgomery of Seymour, Indiana graduated from Hanover College in 1914 before heading to Hollywood to work in the fledgling silent movie industry. He worked first at Triangle Motion Picture Company and later at Universal Pictures. He died at the age of 36 of tuberculosis.
