This collections is comprised of 74 pages of longhand notes in English made by Pearce Bailey and bound with the two volumes of Oscar Fraentzel’s Vorlesungen uber die Krankheiten des Herzens (Lectures on Diseases of the Heart) (1889, 1891).

The notes are labeled “Lectures on blood by Dr. Golosh Adolfs Spital (sic), Vienna” and “Notes on Blood (Lectures by Kraus, Vienna” (page 46 forward?) Topics include blood, the spleen, anemia, chlorosis, hemophilia, Addison’s disease, leukemia. References to other sources on these subjects appear throughout the notes.

Biographical / Historical

Pearce Bailey was born in New York and practiced medicine there his entire professional career. He graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York in 1889. He was Professor of Neurology at that same institution beginning in 1906. Bailey was one of the first American neurologists.
