Biographical / Historical

The Louisville Water Company was founded in 1860; it was the first public water provider in the state. The Louisville Water Tower began operations in 1860. It was badly damaged by the tornado that tore through Louisville on March 27, 1890, and closed in 1909, having been replaced by the Crescent Hill Reservoir and pumping station, which by that point had a new filtration system. The Water Tower and the Crescent Hill Reservoir are on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2008, Louisville's tap water was named “The Best Tasting Tap Water in the Country” by the American Water Works Association.
