Scope and Contents

This collection contains materials from the Theatre Arts and Speech Department chronicling the activities of the Belknap Theater. The collection dates from 1916 to 1975 and includes programs/playbills, newspaper clippings, scene photos, and photos of people (headshots). Office records from the Belknap Theater Playhouse office dating from the 1950s to the 1970s are also included.

Content Description

The collection includes materials relating to Hatcher's attendance at Louisville’s Male High School and the University of Louisville, including commencement booklets and literary magazines. His participation in theatrical productions, including opera, are documented through photographs and programs. His post-collegiate involvement with the Kiwanis Club is captured in Kiwanis programs, newsletters, and related correspondence.

Scope and Contents Collection contains mainly scrapbooks containing reviews, cast lists and other papers related to Martin's work in local theater companies including Macauley’s Theater, Masonic Theater, Little Theater Company, and the University of Louisville’s UofL Players, and Belknap Players. Summary This collection includes records of Elizabeth Arterburn Wilson's career as Louisville recreation specialist (1930s), Louisville U.S.O. director (1940-45), recreation specialist with the American Red Cross in Germany (1945-50) and cultural affairs officer with the United States Information Agency in Hanover, Germany (1950-71).
